Learn more about the hummingbirds!
You will experience their humming sound created by the beating of their wings flapping at high frequencies. As they hover in mid-air at rapid wing-flapping rates, varying between 12-80 times per minute depending on their size. Here at the Northwest Nature Shop, we have experience Anna’s and Rufous Hummingbirds in our neighborhood. The Anna’s Hummingbird is a year-round resident in Ashland Oregon, while the Rufous Hummingbird, widespread throughout North America, make the largest migration per body side of any bird. Either way, spending the winter in Ashland, or traveling between Oregon and Mexico, these birds need to fill up on their nectar!
